The Great Recession saw a serious contraction of the American housing industry. In Arizona, the market did not just contract. It crumbled. *Maricopa County helps with energy efficiency
PHOENIX — Federal funding is available to help hundreds of Maricopa County residents make their homes more energy efficient. ”An average savings to a family’s annual energy cost is anywhere from $197 to about maybe $420 annually, savings, after we’ve weatherized their home.” To read story click here

The Community Action Human Resources Agency hopes to help eligible low-income home­owners weatherize their homes.Funding for the weatherization program was made available from the U.S. Department of Energy, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program through the Arizona Department of Commerce, Arizona Energy Office, Salt River Project, Southwest Gas Corporation and Arizona Public Service Co.  To read story click here
* Secretary Chu Announces major New Recovery Act Milestone: 300,000 Homes Weatherized.   U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Steven chu today announced that states and territories across the country have now weatherized more than 300,000 low-income homes under the Recovery Act, a major milestone in the Department’s efforts to reduce home energy bills for families.  To read story click here
* Stimulus funds used to weatherize low-income housing in BullHead City.  Tenants at a low-income apartment complex in Bullhead City are expected to save an average of $358 on their energy bills next year, due to a federally funded weatherization program. To read story click here

* CAHRA CELEBRATES WEATHERIZATION DAY! 
Community Action Human Resources Agency celebrated Weatherization Day last Friday, October 29 with a break-fast and program at Pinal Gila Council for Senior Citizens. A demonstration by the agency crew was later performed at the home of program participant in Casa Grande.  To read more click here
 *Arizona Foundation Expands Weatherization Training CenterTo an outsider, Arizona’s Foundation for Senior Living (FSL) probably sounds like an organization that deals just with retired folks.  But a closer look reveals a more diverse organization.  Not only does the 35-year-old nonprofit perform energy upgrades for low-income residents, but in Maricopa County and the Phoenix area it also trains a good part of the weatherization workforce to do that. * Arizona Gains on Energy Efficiency Scoreboard

Arizona is one of the four most improved states in terms of energy efficiency, according to a study released today by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy… Part of Arizona’s improvement came from implementation of $57 million received from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act aimed at weatherization.  To read more click here

Community Action Human Resources Agency (CAHRA) has funding to assist eligible low-income homeowners with weatherization and home repairs, Mary Lou Rosales, Executive Director announced recently. “We are especially seeking applicants from the Arizona City area. *City of Phoenix Receives Weatherization Grant

Recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as a high-performing local weatherization agency, the city of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department (NSD) will receive a $700,000 Sustainable Energy Resources for Consumers Grant for a pilot program to install solar or heat pump hot water systems in low- to moderate-income residents’ homes.  Click PhoenixWinsFederalEnergyGrant

* Weatherization Projects Underway in nothern Arizona

Weatherization projects are under way in Apache, Coconino, Yavapai and Navajo counties. *Arizona Receives Final Phase Funding for Weatherization Assistance Program

  PHOENIX – Governor Jan Brewer today announced Arizona’s Weatherization Assistance Program will receive $28.5 million, the final phase of funding from the U.S. Department of Energy as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.  This is the third phase of funding of the $57 million awarded to the State Energy Office at the Arizona Department of Commerce.  (First phase of $5.7 million was awarded in March and second phase of $22.8 million was awarded in June of 2009.)  Click PR_081710_BrewerAnnouncesAddWeatherizationFunding for more information.
