The U.S. Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) reduces energy costs and improves safety and comfort for low-income homeowners and renters nationwide. More than 100,000 homes across the country are weatherized each year, reducing annual energy costs by an average of $437 per household and saving 24.1 million barrels of oil.
In Arizona, where low-income households spend as much as 30% of their total annual income on energy, more than 24,000 homes have been weatherized since 1977.
By March 2012, and additional 6,400 Arizona homes will be weatherized through an investment of $57 million in Federal Weatherization Stimulus Funding.
